About Our Community

We are a vibrant Eritrean community in Newcastle Upon Tyne, united under the spiritual guidance of Abune Antonios. Our community is dedicated to preserving the true teachings of the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Church and resisting the interference of the Eritrean regime in religious affairs.

Inspired by the courage and unwavering faith of Abune Antonios, we stand together to uphold truth, justice, and the sanctity of our faith.

Our Inspiration: Abune Antonios

Abune Antonios (Tigrinya: ኣቡነ ኣንጦንዮስ; 11 July 1929 – 9 February 2022) was the third Patriarch of the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Church. Known for his unwavering commitment to truth and integrity, he became a symbol of resistance against the oppressive Eritrean regime's attempts to exert control over the Church.

In 2004, Abune Antonios was elevated to Patriarch but was unjustly deposed in 2006 and placed under house arrest for his resistance to government interference in church matters.

Despite the hardships, his courage and moral clarity earned him deep respect. His life and sacrifices remain an inspiration to all who continue to fight for religious freedom and human dignity.

"The truth will set you free." - A guiding principle from Abune Antonios
